Flexibility solutions through large-scale energy storage store electricity during production surpluses and then feed it back into the system during shortages. Our energy storage facility will thus increase the utilization of the existing grid by releasing capacity when electricity consumption is high, without incurring costs for electricity consumers in Blekinge. As intermittent energy sources such as solar and wind increase in the system, energy storage becomes essential for achieving the acceleration of electrification and the green transition in a stable, secure, and cost-effective way. With lead times of 1–3 years, battery energy storage also demonstrates that the green transition is possible here and now, which is essential to maintaining attractiveness and competitiveness as an industrial nation.
Ingrid Capacity and E.ON initiated the project in 2022 following the opportunity to connect a battery energy storage system to E.ON's regional grid. We are now together entering a design phase with the aim of starting construction in 2026 and commissioning in 2027. This system, with a capacity of 100MW/200MWh, will be both the largest battery energy storage project built in the Nordics and the first two-hour system developed by Ingrid Capacity.

The energy storage initiative strengthens electricity supply in the SE4 area in southern Sweden. It will benefit the residents of Karlshamn and the region by helping to stabilize electricity prices and lower grid fees in the long term. In this way, the initiative will make Blekinge more attractive for business establishments.

The energy storage facility in Karlshamn is the third project developed by Ingrid Capacity in the county of Blekinge, following a 16MW/16MWh storage facility in Karlskrona municipality and a 3MW/3MWh storage facility in Karlshamn, which we established together with Karlshamn Energi in 2022.
The Karlshamn energy storage project will be a system with a capacity of 100MW. Karlshamn's oil-fired power plant, at maximum output, has a capacity of 662MW. This means that the energy storage system could potentially replace nearly one-sixth of the oil combustion at maximum capacity with fossil-free energy.
The expansion of the Karlshamn energy storage system is part of Ingrid Capacity's ambitious growth plan to become the leading independent flexibility provider in Europe, with 8GW under management by 2030. By 2025, Ingrid Capacity expects to have nearly 30 projects operational across Sweden.
