The Nivala project is Finland’s largest ready-to-build BESS. Once operational in 2026, it will be managed by Ingrid Capacity’s proprietary and fully automated trading and optimization platform, an advanced AI-driven software designed to make real-time decisions based on more than 100,000 variables and constraints. This ensures maximum value for grid operators, investors, and electricity consumers – whether by balancing the grid, stabilizing electricity prices, or providing extra capacity to grid operators to manage peak demand.

The Nivala project is Ingrid Capacity’s second collaboration with Locus Energy, following the 196MW/196MWh grid-scale energy storage portfolio announced last year.

Finland is experiencing a rapid expansion of renewable energy, particularly wind power along the west coast, as part of its goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2035. However, this growth is putting increasing pressure on the grid, leading to imbalances and limitations on integrating additional renewable capacity. This challenge has been amplified since Finland disconnected from the Russian electricity grid in 2022, making grid stability both more critical and more complex.
