
Ingrid is launching a peak-shaving product in collaboration with Varbergortens Elnät, powered by Ingrid’s AI optimisation platform and a 20MW/20MWh battery energy storage system in Varberg. Co-owned by Ingrid and BW ESS, the system uses AI to predict and reduce peak loads in real time. Up to 90% of grid operators’ additional capacity needs can be reduced, enabling more efficient use of existing grid infrastructure and generating annual cost savings of several million euros. The peak-shaving product is an important part of Ingrid’s broader vision of creating a more intelligent electricity grid in Europe.
During this fall and winter, Ingrid has launched new products and services designed to unlock local grid value, one of these initiatives are through so-called peak shaving. Peak shaving helps reduce rare but high short-term peaks in electricity demand. By utilising AI and machine learning together with physical infrastructure such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), electricity is optimized to be stored when grid load is lower and then discharged during hours of highest demand. The result is a more balanced load on the power grid, lower peak demand, and more efficient utilisation of existing grid capacity.
Ingrid's peak shaving product - the first of its kind in the Nordics - is being carried out together with Varbergortens Elnät to relieve pressure on the local power grid and enable continued electrification in the region. By limiting additional capacity needs during peak hours by up to 90% for local grid owners, the solution can help avoid additional costs of several million SEK.

There is strong demand for products such as Peak Shaving that strengthen the grid. In addition to Peak Shaving agreements, Ingrid is participating in local flexibility markets in southern Sweden, both in Gothenburg and Skåne, as part of our broader initiatives to further supporting local grids and communities across Sweden. This forms part of Ingrid’s broader vision to build the infrastructure and software required to create an intelligent and resilient power grid across Europe.
